The midterms reshuffled which lawmakers are backing youth sports bills, new research points to knee shape as an ACL risk factor, and the NFL named its pro flag football league. Below is our youth sports news roundup for the week ending November 8, 2026, grouped into three sections for parents, coaches and club operators.
Youth Sports News

Midterms Remove Six Lead Sponsors of Youth Sports Bills
The November 3 midterms took out six lead or co-lead sponsors of federal youth sports legislation, according to Youth Sports Business Report, which adapted Sportico’s reporting. None of the six tracked bills got past introduction, so all of them expire when the 119th Congress ends on January 3, 2027. That list includes the PLAY Act, the STRONG Kids Act and the Youth Sports Facilities Act. The PHIT Act is the only one whose lead sponsors still hold seats in both chambers.
Team USA Teens Reach the Podium at the Dakar Youth Olympics
The 2026 Youth Olympic Games run from October 31 to November 13, the first Olympic event held in Africa. Skateboarder Julian Jeang-Agliardi won men’s street gold, the first gold medal of the Games. On November 7, U17 Beach World champion Matilda Hruby of Brighton, Colorado, won bronze at 75 kg in beach wrestling, which is new to the program this year. USA Wrestling says that makes her the first American to medal in the event.
Arnold Palmer Junior Golf Tour Plans Nearly 400 Events
A new national junior circuit backed by David Blitzer’s Bolt Ventures starts January 2–3 at ChampionsGate in Orlando. It plans nearly 400 events in its first year for boys and girls ages 8–18, compared with about 150 AJGA tournaments this year. A Player Access Award will help families with costs.
ECNL National Finals Head to U.S. Soccer’s Atlanta Training Center
On November 5 the ECNL announced that its National, Regional League and Conference League Finals will be held at the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center from July 12–18, 2027. About 200 teams and more than 3,000 players in the U13–U17 age groups are expected. If your child is chasing a spot, our guide to youth sports tryout etiquette for parents is worth reading before next season’s evaluations.
Real American Freestyle Buys World of Wrestling
On November 5, the pro league Real American Freestyle agreed to acquire World of Wrestling, which runs Tulsa Nationals, Reno Worlds and the Kickoff Classic. Those events draw more than 8,000 entries a year. The 2026–27 youth schedule stays the same.

HSS Study: Knee Shape Alone Raises ACL Force
Hospital for Special Surgery researchers built MRI-based “digital twins” of 168 young athletes’ knees and applied the same loads to each one. Knee geometry alone produced 20% more ACL force in injured females and 26% more in injured males than in uninjured peers, according to the HSS release. The paper appears in Communications Medicine. Strength work is still a main prevention tool, and our youth strength training and growth plates guide explains how to start it safely.
FA and WSL Launch a Major ACL Research Project
England’s FA and WSL Football are partnering with Imperial College London and knee surgeon Simon Ball on a PhD study led by Hanna Lehtovirta. Phase one will survey players with and without ACL injuries since the 2018/19 season, covering workload, hormonal, nutritional and psychological factors. Phase two adds interviews with players and staff. The project focuses on adult players, but its findings on female ACL risk should matter for girls’ programs too.
WHO Data: 86% of Adolescents Aren’t Active Enough
New WHO data published November 4 in The Lancet found that 86% of 11- to 17-year-olds worldwide miss recommended activity levels, up from 81% in 2016. Among girls, 28% report no active days in a typical week. In response, 84 companies and federations, including Nike, Adidas and New Balance, signed a WFSGI open letter committing to close the gap, though the letter includes no funding or timelines. Seattle High School Leans on Guardian Caps
KIRO 7 reports that all 91 players at Ballard High School wear Guardian Caps for every practice, game and walk-through. The program has recorded five concussions in nine games this season. A UW neuropathologist in the story cautions that the CTE studies cited are skewed, because families are more likely to donate the brains of players who had symptoms.

GoFan Adds Cash App Pay for High School Tickets
PlayOn Sports’ GoFan is now the first national high school ticketing platform to offer Cash App Pay, announced November 5. The deal also includes marketing across MaxPreps. Booster clubs that want more revenue from game nights can also look at our concession stand pricing playbook.
eCamps Sports Network Spun Out of PlayMetrics

NFL and TMRW Sports Unveil Premier Flag
The NFL’s pro flag football league is called Premier Flag. It will launch men’s and women’s divisions in summer 2027, and all 32 NFL owners are investors. The league cites about 4.1 million U.S. youth flag players, up more than 50% since 2020, which gives young players a pro level to aim for.
Xavier Wins Wisconsin’s First Girls Flag Football Title
On November 7, Xavier beat Bay Port 19-6 at Titletown in Green Bay to win the first Wisconsin Girls Flag Football State Championship, FOX 11 reports. The WIAA doesn’t sanction the sport yet, but schools and the Packers are pushing to change that.
A $3,000 Garage Rink Sells Out a Hockey Hotel
The Hilton Garden Inn Moncton Downtown in New Brunswick built a ball hockey rink in its parking garage for about $3,000. The hotel is now sold out every weekend through June 2027 with traveling youth teams. It’s one of this week’s best youth sports news stories for tournament organizers: a small amenity for families brought in a lot of repeat business.
